The Adamsons are back with Issue 43 of the monthly magazine podcast for the discerning film nerd. Double Reel monthly is the first instalment with news, a look at new releases coming our way, reviews of new films including the new ones from Scorsese and Fincher, and the latest in our annual projects Legal Cage of Consent and The Cronenberg Institute.

Issue 42 of the monthly magazine for the discerning film nerd concludes with the Big Conversation, where the Adamsons dig into a topic from the film world in more detail. This month we look at the fine art of making comedy films, why it shouldn't be so much harder than other genres but somehow it is, how tastes in comedy and the economics of comedy films have changed over the years, and whether cancel culture makes it impossible to make great comedies any more.

The latest issue of the monthly magazine podcast for the discerning film nerd continues with the Features, which this month all have a comedy theme. Our Classics and Recommended film is Irish buddy cop film The Guard; our Hidden Gem is the 1986 film Down and Out in Beverly Hills; The One That Got Away features Bruce Willis in the disastrous cancelled project Broadway Brawler; our Remake Hatewatch is Robert Downey and his odd accent in Dolittle and our Remake Restoration suggests major changes to Superman 3.

Penalty Shootout Film Quiz - October 2023

The fiendish monthly quiz where the Adamsons test each others film knowledge and battle to avoid a vicious forfeit. Previously we included the quiz as part of Double Reel Monthly but now we're releasing it as a separate episode.

The score currently stands at 4-0 to (young) James, and (the other) James is desperate to claw back some respectability. The stakes are high. If (young) James loses this quiz he has to watch The Life Aquatic by Steve Zissou, and (the other) James has an Uwe Boll film hanging over him. Who will win? Download and find out.

The monthly magazine podcast for the discerning film nerd is back with another issue packed with cinematic chat and opinion. As always we release the latest issue in instalments to keep your feed fed through the month, starting here with Double Reel Monthly.

 

We have news and a look at new releases; reviews of new films including The Creator, The Lesson, Nimona and How to Blow Up A Pipeline; the latest in our year-long project The Cronenberg Institute and another randomly generated instalment of our other year-long project Legal Cage of Consent.

Double Reel Special: The Return of Jamie B Chambers - I Am Rage

Exciting times here at Double Reel, the monthly magazine podcast for the discerning film nerd: hot on the heels of our recent special episode we have another one for you. Our special guest making their return to the pod is actor, stunt performer, fight choreographer and all round gent Jamie B Chambers. Jamie is back to discuss his new film the dark action-horror I Am Rage.

Jamie gives us the run down on the making of his new film, what to expect and some great stories from his time on a range of film sets including Brad Pitt's Fury, Star Wars the Force Awakens and Scott Adkins thriller One Shot. We also get a look at some of his new and upcoming projects and of course a chance to geek out with a fellow film nerd.

This month we mark the recent passing of legendary director William Friedkin with a retrospective on his films.

An extra special episode of the monthly magazine podcast for the discerning film nerd. Our guest is Mitch from Primetime Mitch, a brand new video channel dedicated to discussing your favourite crowd-pleasing films. 

Mitch talks about what you can expect from his shows, as well as his own movie watching life, and kindly agreed to nominate some films that fit our usual feature categories of Classic, Hidden Gem, Remake Hatewatch and a remake he'd like to see.
