The monthly magazine podcast for the discerning film nerd. James Adamson is a slightly obsessive armchair fan, giving you his take on the world of cinema. So are his co hosts: James Adamson, his imaginatively named son, and Alan Bayles, a sci fi author, fellow film nerd and fellow Sunderland fan. As well as a look at news, new releases and how we’re fitting in movie watching with our busy exciting lives, we look into classic films we haven't seen yet and overlooked hidden gems you need to see, ask remakes to justify their existence or be wiped from history and offer parole hearings to bad films that need to be remade to fix their flaws.

Saturday Dec 30, 2023
Issue 44 of the monthly magazine podcast for the discerning film nerd continues with a very Ridley Scott themed episode. Our Classic is his feminist road movie Thelma & Louise, our Hidden Gem is his less heralded debut The Duellists, The One That Got Away explores how Kubrick (one of Scott's idols) failed to get a Napoleon film off the ground 50 years before Sir Ridley made his version, and our Remake Hatewatch asks why Exodus Gods and Kings bothered to try and revive the Moses story. As a special treat at the end we suggest a remake to fix all the flaws in Prometheus.
The previous parts of Issue 44 are out now: Double Reel Monthly and the Penalty Shootout Film Quiz. Next week we close out this issue with a Ridley Scott-themed Big Conversation.

Double Reel Presents: Penalty Shootout Film Quiz December 2023
Tuesday Dec 26, 2023
Tuesday Dec 26, 2023
Issue 44 of the monthly magazine film quiz for the discerning film nerd continues with the Penalty Shootout Film Quiz, the fiendishly complicated and keenly contested test of film trivia prowess.
The Adamsons face off to see who will win the quiz question shootout, with a forfeit awaiting the loser in the form of a film they really don't want to see, vindictively selected for them by the winner. This month James (no the other one) will watch Wes Anderson's The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou if he loses, while James (yes that one) will be forced to watch the notorious 2000s film parody Disaster Movie. The score currently stands at 5-0 to James (no the other one) so we all know which way the betting odds are leaning.
Double Reel Monthly no 44 is already out to listen to and next week we'll bring you the Features.

The Adamsons conclude Issue 43 of the monthly magazine podcast for the discerning film nerd with the Big Conversation. This month our cinematic deep dive discussed our movie watching Bucket Lists - the films you want to try and watch on the big screen at least once in your live. We talk about bucket list films we've already seen, films we dream of seeing at the cinema one day, and the films we think should be on everyone's bucket list.
The other parts of this month's issue are already available: Double Reel Monthly, Penalty Shootout Film Quiz and the Features.

Issue 43 of the monthly magazine podcast for the discerning film nerd continues with the Features. Our Classic is bonkers French period action horror The Brotherhood of the Wolf; the Hidden Gem is Werner Herzog's Rescue Dawn; The One That Got Away features Spielberg's attempt to make The Trial of the Chicago 7; our Remake Hatewatch is the superflous 2007 version of The Invasion; and finally we ask for a remake of the superhero comedy Hancock.

Double Reel Presents: Penalty Shootout Film Quiz November 2023
Wednesday Nov 29, 2023
Wednesday Nov 29, 2023
Another round of the fiendish Penalty Shootout Film Quiz, where the Adamsons battle it out to see who has the best knowledge of cinematic trivia. The winner gets to force the loser to perform a forfeit and watch a film they're really going to hate. The score is currently 5-0 to James (no the other one) and James (yes that one) to claw his way back into contention.
Last month the loser had to watch Uwe Boll's horrific Alone in the Dark. This month, James (no the other one) will have to avoid the film he's successfully avoided for months now - Wes Anderson's The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. James (yes that one) will have to watch Tommy Wiseau's The Room.
Our latest episode Double Reel Monthly is already out now, and the Features will be released on December 2nd.
