Issue 46 of the monthly magazine podcast for the discerning film nerd continues with the latest drop of our regular Features episode. The theme this month is films about the television industry, with Classics and Recommended Network, Hidden Gem Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, The One that Got Away - Jacques Tati's Confusion and Remake Hatewatch Bewitched. As a bonus we also look at the remake we'd like to see - a new adaptation of Stephen King's dystopian reality TV prophecy The Running Man.

Issue 46 of the monthly magazine podcast for the discerning film nerd continues with the fiendish Penalty Shootout Film Quiz. James (no the other one) is yet to win a quiz, with the score currently 5-0 to James (yes that one). 

As always our intrepid hosts face off in the format of a penalty shootout (like from the footy) and the winner gets to make the loser watch a film they're going to hate. Will James (no the other one) finally get a win?

Issue 46 of the monthly magazine podcast for the discerning film nerd kicks off with its first instalment, Double Reel Monthly with news, a look at new releases coming soon, new films we watched in the past month and the latest in our "New Year Resolution" annual project. James (no the other one) continues his spotlight on women director's with Ava Du Vernay's Selma and James (yes that one) kicks off his look at the films of Christopher Nolan with a double bill of Dunkirk and The Dark Knight Rises.

 

In a few days we'll bring you the latest Penalty Shootout Film Quiz, then after that it will be the Features with a theme of films about the television industry.

45 3 The Big Conversation: 3rd Annual Double Reel Awards

Issue 45 of the monthly magazine podcast for the discerning film nerd concludes with our Big Conversation, and as it's our first of the year we're giving you our Annual Awards show for excellence and otherwise for the films of 2023.

 

As usual we go strictly on films that got their full release in the calendar year, and as usual we bring you innovative awards you don't get elsewhere such as biggest disappointment, worst accent, and an award chosen by James's dogs.

Issue 45 of the monthly magazine podcast for the discerning film nerd continues with the Features. This month our theme is films about films and the film industry. Our Classic is Robert Altman's The Player, our Hidden Gem is Tim Burton's lesser-known Ed Wood, the One That Got Away is the epic tale of Orson Welles trying and failing to make a film about a great director trying to make a film, and our Remake Hatewatch is the hateful Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde. At the end we also talk about a remake we'd like to see, of the promising but botched comedy An Alan Smithee Film:  Burn Hollywood Burn!

Double Reel Presents: Penalty Shootout Film Quiz - January 2025

The second instalment of Double Reel Issue 45, the fiendish, complicated and keenly contested Penalty Shootout Film Quiz. Currently the score stands at 5-0 to James (no the other one) and James (yes that one) is desperate to claw his way back into contention.

The forfeits for the loser this month: James (no the other one) will have to watch The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou if he loses, but if it's James (yes that one) his forfeit will be The Room.

This month's Double Reel Monthly is already out, and the Features will be released next week.

Back with a bang for the New Year, it's the Adamsons and the monthly magazine for the discerning film nerd. First up in our latest issue: Double Reel Monthly, with news, new releases, a look at new films including Three Musketeers Milady, Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon Part 1, The Burial and Saltburn, the first film in a new film project about women directors starting with CODA and a preview of another new film project starting next month.

Double Reel Presents: The Cronenberg Institute

Another special bonus anthology episode for your waiting ears. This compiles all the monthly entries in James (yes that one)'s annual project looking at films by the great David Cronenberg. This consists of nine films I hadn't seen before, followed by three of his best classics.
