Issue 41 of the monthly magazine podcast for the discerning film nerd continues with our regular features, which this month have a connecting theme of apocalyptic films.  Our Classics and Recommended feature is the legendary Andrei Tarkovsky's Stalker; our Hidden Gem is Take Shelter; The One That Got Away looks at David Lynch's decades-long attempts to make Ronnie Rocket; our Remake Hatewatch is 2007's I Am Legend; and finally we ask whether Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome needs to be remade to get it right this time.

This first instalment is Double Reel Monthly, with news, a look at new releases coming our way and reviews of new films Scrapper, The Equalizer 3, Barbie (again) and They Cloned Tyrone. We also bring you the fiendish Penalty Shootout Film Quiz and the latest in our year long film projects The Cronenberg Institute with Maps to the Stars, and Legal Age of Consent with Leaving Las Vegas.

Double Reel Presents: The Adamsons Versus AI

In case you weren't aware James and James do another podcast, The Adamsons Versus, in which we take an offbeat look at non film related topics. We're sharing our latest episode on this feed to give you a chance to listen to it - hope you enjoy it. In this episode we talk about the good, bad, scary and funny sides of AI, before rambling off onto other topics and ending with our regular look at what Florida Man has been up to.

Issue 40 of the monthly magazine podcast for the discerning film nerd concludes with a long chat in which the Adamsons offer to fix all of Hollywood's problems for them. Pitch Me A Blockbuster is our shot at suggesting some great films the studios could make to get them out of their current malaise. We throw out ideas, see if they'll work and indulge in some fantasy casting.

In our Classics and Recommended feature we look at the hugely influential 50s western Rio Bravo; our Hidden Gem is Tom Cruise's comparatively underseen American Made; The One That Got Away looks at British auteur John Boorman's failed attempt to make a live action version of Lord of the Rings in the 1970s; our Remake Hatewatch demolishes the execrable 2011 version of Conan the Barbarian; and to top it off we ask for Last Action Hero to be remade better this time.

As usual we're releasing it in three parts through the month to keep your feed fed regularly, and we begin with Double Reel Monthly. It's a bumper episode thanks to a long discussion on Oppenheimer, as well as our usual look at news, new releases, reviews of other new films including Barbie and Heart of Stone and the fiendish Penalty Shootout Film Quiz. We finish with our year-long projects Legal Cage of Consent in which James (no the other one) watches a Nic Cage film picked for him at random by the internet, and James (yes that one) with The Cronenberg Institute which this month features Robert Pattinson in Cosmopolis. Next week we will bring you our regular Features episode and the following week it will be the Big Conversation.

39.3 The Big Conversation: Casting Decisions and ”What If” Moments

Issue 39 of the monthly magazine podcast for the discerning film nerd concludes with the Big Conversation, in which the Adamsons tackle a topic from the film world in more detail. This month it's how casting affects a film and how different some of your favourite films would have been if the original choice had been cast. Sometimes it's a fascinating Sliding Doors moment; or it just proves what James (no, the other one) says, that often filmmakers are lucky they didn't get what they wanted.
