The monthly magazine podcast for the discerning film nerd. James Adamson is a slightly obsessive armchair fan, giving you his take on the world of cinema. So are his co hosts: James Adamson, his imaginatively named son, and Alan Bayles, a sci fi author, fellow film nerd and fellow Sunderland fan. As well as a look at news, new releases and how we’re fitting in movie watching with our busy exciting lives, we look into classic films we haven't seen yet and overlooked hidden gems you need to see, ask remakes to justify their existence or be wiped from history and offer parole hearings to bad films that need to be remade to fix their flaws.

This is the music free version of Reel 2 of the podcast. For those of you who use Spotify, you can find the other version of the episode there, featuring some of the film scores and songs from movies that we discussed.
The Adamsons bring you another Big Conversation in this second reel of their monthly film magazine podcast. This month we're discussing music in film. Starting with the composers who have soundtracked our greatest moments in film, from leading composers over the last few decades such as John Williams, Hans Zimmer and Ennio Morricone, we look at how film scores have evolved over time. This includes the innovations of pod favourite John Carpenter, the rise of new modern styles of composing in the 80s from the likes of Georgio Moroder and Michael Kamen, through to the new breed of composers such as Nordic tyros Ludwig Goransson and Hildur Gudnodottir and rock musicians who've turned to scoring films like Trent Reznor and Jonny Greenwood. We also look at classic film soundtracks that use rock and pop songs to enliven key scenes, from Trainspotting to Goodfellas and the mighty Saturday Night Fever, and the art of the Needle Drop when the perfect song meets the perfect film moment.
