The monthly magazine podcast for the discerning film nerd. James Adamson is a slightly obsessive armchair fan, giving you his take on the world of cinema. So are his co hosts: James Adamson, his imaginatively named son, and Alan Bayles, a sci fi author, fellow film nerd and fellow Sunderland fan. As well as a look at news, new releases and how we’re fitting in movie watching with our busy exciting lives, we look into classic films we haven't seen yet and overlooked hidden gems you need to see, ask remakes to justify their existence or be wiped from history and offer parole hearings to bad films that need to be remade to fix their flaws.

Issue 37 of the monthly magazine podcast for the discerning film nerd, and this week it's the Features, our regular discussions to enrich your film watching and help you escape the confines of the algorithm. Our Classics and Recommended feature is Drive, Nicholas Winding Refn's tribute to the characters of the 70s and styles of the 80s. Our Hidden Gem is the underrated and underseen Vietnam War film Casualties of War. In The One that Got Away we discuss how John Carpenter almost made the definitive western but in the end Tombstone was directed by someone else. Our Remake Hatewatch compares 2019's Midway to, you guessed it, 1976's Midway. And as a bonus we look at how a remake of Waterworld might actually be a good idea. Last week we dropped Double Reel monthly with news, reviews and a look at our annual film projects of David Cronenberg and Nic Cage classics. Next week we'll bring you the final part of the issue, the Big Conversation.
